'Kalimpong- Where the Mules Quenched their Thirst' is an example of the brilliance of the author Sandip C Jain and a must read for all Kalimpong Lovers. We find the historical hill station Kalimpong, in the book, as a theatrical stage where various dramatis personalities appear with their respective roles leaving behind the traces of memories which the keen observer like Jain finds quite tempting to explore and decipher. But most of the characters performing on this stage (as we are made to see) are from beyond the international borders while local inhabitants may be imagined as the mute spectators. Sitting on a gently sloping, at the elevation of about 5,000 ft, Kalimpong is endowed with its own hidden international stories. In this book Kalimpong also stands as a small open dormer window in the attic through which the reader can have some exciting glimpses of almost all the neighbouring countries like Burma (Myanmar), Tibet, China, Mongolia, Afghanistan, Bhutan and Nepal, and at the same time, the cool breeze from some of the European countries may also be felt.
