The Stir of a Leaf
Shaik Asad
Life is nothing but a succession of fleeting nows. These fragile instants possess the quiet force to carry us across the restless waters of existence, and yet, at one short careless turn of will, they may fade into an utter insignificance. So the question lingers: what roots us―deep and true―within the soil of feelings? Faith? Conviction? Are these not fleeting as well? If everything passes, then to what do we moor the trembling vessel called life? Perhaps change alone endures, ushered in by the softest Stir of a leaf.
You say love? To hold up to? I remember old Qasim, who laid down his love so that she might be spared its suffering. You say hope? Do we not cling to it relentlessly, hoping against hope, just to keep its impermanence at bay? And then you whisper, 'but you never know'! Yes. That is the truth we live by―we never know.
