Classical Bangla
Edited by Amitava Das, Rajat Sanyal, and Rajib Chakraborty
In January 2024, the Government of West Bengal submitted a four-volume claim paper seeking recognition of Bangla as a classical language. Following this, on October 4, 2024, Bangla was granted Classical status by the Government of India, meeting the established criteria. Along with Bangla, Pali, Prakrit, Assamese, and Marathi were also accorded this recognition. The current volume is an abridged and edited version of that claim paper, intended for a general audience.
