Jetorlore
Oral Tales from the Jetor Indigenous Community
Collected and Edited by Nirmalendu De
Translated by Debdas Roy
Few pages for you
Presenting oral stories that feature individuals from all walks of lives as their heroes-from princes and merchants to daughters of impoverished cotton farmers-this collection of folktales offers insights into the lives of the marginalised Jetor community of Bengal. These tales, which were originally collected and presented by Nirmalendu De in Bengali, have been translated into English by Debdas Roy, incorporating additional research in the form of insights gleaned from Jetor elders. The translation has taken care to preserve the Jetor voice with minimal intervention. With a foreword by Sharankumar Limbale, this collection is an attempt to bring the lives of an oppressed and largely overlooked community to the attention of a new readership.
